MacGillivray’s room

Hugh George MacGillivray (1920-1984)

George MacGillivray of Sidney, Nova Scotia enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery eight days before Canada declared war on Germany. He subsequently transferred to the West Nova Scotia Regiment where he was severely wounded in action on the 11th of December 1944 while the regiment was crossing the Lamone River in Italy.

In 1946, George entered the University of New Brunswick. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Forestry by UNB in 1949 and a Master of Forestry by the University of Michigan in 1950. He joined the Maritime District of the Canadian Forestry Service in June 1950 and remained with the Service until his retirement in December 1976.

George was a keen rifle and pistol shooter, and a life member and past president of the Royal New Brunswick Rifle Association. He was active in Scottish affairs, and at the time of his death in 1984, was the Honorary President of the Fredericton Society of Saint Andrew.
